Vladimir Simic was born on October 27th, 1961 in Belgrade, Serbia. Majoring in exploring mineral deposit sites, he earned his masters in mining at the University of Belgrade where he graduated in 1987, after which he worked for two years at the Mining Institute in Zemun, Serbia, on mineral deposit modeling. Afterwards, from 1988 -1990, he was employed at Geozavod in Belgrade, researching non-metallic mineral ores. Since 1990, he has been working as a professor at the Mining Faculty of the University of Belgrade. He has been a dedicated mentor to assist many students finish their doctoral dissertations and has served on the review board of numerous doctoral theses.
He attended Comenius University of Bratislava, Slovakia, in 2003 to do his postdoctoral work in the geology of mineral-ore deposits, during which he worked on the project titled “the Geology of Cailine and Clay” under the leadership of Dr. Ivan Kraus. Within the course of these studies, he also delved his research into zeolites. He established scientific cooperation networks with universities in Bratislava (Slovakia), Leoben (Austria), and Salamanca (Spain).
A prolific researcher, he has been the author and coauthor of over 160 scientific reports. In addition to his published works, Dr. Vladimir Simić has contributed to the implementation of 6 scientific projects that deal with the mineralogy and prognostic assessment of non-metallic mineral resources and fossil fuels, as well as dozens of expert studies, projects, reports and studies.
In 2014, he led a Serbian team on six international projects, reports and elaborations as well as the reviewer of 4 projects for the implementation within HORIZON2020. He also was the layout editor of two monographs on international mineral policy in the “Tehnika” journal, which were published in English.
Vladimir Simić has been invited to hold a number lectures series aimed at both professionals and the general public at a number of institutions, including the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University in Bratislava, as well as at the Kolarč National University, the Natural History Center of Serbia in Svilajnec and the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, among others.
Dr Simic is a member of the Serbian Geological Society, the Serbian Gemological Society, the Zeolite Society of Serbia, the International Association for Natural Zeolites and the International Association of Sedimentologists.
